Japan
On the 9th of October, during the World Expo in Osaka, we officially launched a new wave in Japan!
This new local chapter of Wavemakers United is part of the Japan National Young Water Professionals (Japan YWP), a sub-organization of the International Water Association (IWA) Japan National Committee.
Wave Japan seeks to strengthen collaboration among Japanese knowledge institutes, primary schools, the private sector in water, food and energy, as well as youth organizations. By connecting these stakeholders, we aim to empower the next generation of water leaders.
Together, we are inspiring Japanese youth to become Water Ambassadors, contributing to the World Water Action Agenda, an ambitious global mission to provide water-related guest lectures to one million children. By fostering water awareness and education, we can shift behaviors and generate meaningful, long-term impact.
In partnership with universities such as Kyoto University and Nagaoka University of Technology with more expected to join, we encourage students to innovate and actively engage in solving the world’s most pressing water challenges.
Targets for youth collaboration
The wave of Japan contributes in the water challenges by focussing on youth collaboration for:
- Awareness & behaviour change
- Local capacity building
- Innovation and job creation
- International collaboration between youth networks & young professionals
