To mark 50 years of Water cooperation between the Netherlands and Egypt, the two countries are launching a special Youth Challenge as part of a broader commemorative programme. This initiative will be officially announced at Cairo Water Week 2025 and conclude with a final event during Cairo Water Week 2026.
The Wave of Egypt will co-organize the initiative under the Partners for Water programme and aims to strengthen technical, leadership, and systems-thinking skills among youth, while fostering joint innovation on water-related challenges.
The challenge will encourage collaboration between Dutch and Egyptian youth to co-create locally viable solutions aligned with SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).
The programme will spotlight key themes from the Netherlands–Egypt delta cooperation: smart agriculture, sustainable coastal management, and sanitation and drinking water.
A joint effort by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), the Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation (MWRI), and other Dutch ministries and partners, this milestone initiative highlights the importance of youth engagement and intergenerational dialogue in shaping the future of global water management.
