RISE: Building Resilient Indonesian Slums

During the last week of February, Wave of Indonesia participated in a multistakeholder forum to disseminate the results of the RISE – Resilient Indonesia Slums Envisioned program, a five‑year research collaboration between Indonesia and the Netherlands.

This program represents efforts of two countries to strengthen resilience in urban slums. It focuses on how environmental pressures, water insecurity, sanitation gaps, and climate risks intersect to shape daily life in informal settlements. Through collaboration between Indonesian and Dutch institutions, the program aims to co‑develop solutions that are both scientifically grounded and community‑driven.

Wave of Indonesia emphasised the growing need to involve youth and young professionals in resilience and urban innovation. Youth engagement is critical for advancing community-based innovation and ensuring water and sanitation initiatives.

RAISE and the recent forum highlight a growing commitment to international research cooperation between the two countries, ensuring that young people play an active role in shaping a sustainable and resilient future.
