We are super excited to share that a recently published paper, Swimmable Futures: Reimagining Water Stewardship through Youth and Community, by Tilly Stroo and Elizabeth Hameeteman, Â explores this through the work of Wavemakers United.
The research highlights a key insight: meaningful youth engagement is already happening. Through education, advocacy, community action, and water stewardship, young people are helping build healthier water futures.
As Wavemakers United reaches communities in more than 60 countries, this publication represents an important milestone, bringing youth-led water stewardship into the academic conversation and demonstrating the impact that community-driven action can have on creating healthier, swimmable waterways for all.
The paper also highlights that water is more than an environmental resource, it connects communities, wellbeing, culture, and civic participation.
