Wavemakers United at the World Water Film Festival

Last week, Wavemakers United took part in the World Water Film Festival at IHE Delft, joining water professionals, storytellers, students, and changemakers for a series of film screenings and conversations on some of the most pressing water challenges of our time.

The films echoed many of the themes that will shape the discussions at the 2026 UN Water Conference in Abu Dhabi, exploring the links between climate change, water security, justice, and resilience. More importantly, they reminded us that behind every water challenge are real people and communities whose stories need to be heard.

The discussions that followed invited participants to reflect on several important realities:

💧 Climate change affects everyone, but its impacts are not felt equally.
💧 Local solutions are essential, yet communities cannot carry the burden of adaptation alone.
💧 Hope begins with collective action and meaningful collaboration.
💧 Moving beyond awareness means refusing both denial and inaction.

For Wavemakers United, the festival highlighted the power of storytelling as a tool for water advocacy. Films can make complex challenges tangible, connect audiences to distant realities, and inspire the difficult but necessary conversations that lead to action.

As we continue preparing for the 2026 UN Water Conference, events like the World Water Film Festival remind us that solving water challenges requires not only technical solutions, but also empathy, dialogue, and the courage to listen to different perspectives.
