ANBI STATUS
In August 2023 the Wavemakers United Foundation was granted with an ANBI status by the Dutch authorities.
With our ANBI status, Wavemakers United is exempt from paying corporate income tax, allowing us to allocate more resources towards our core initiatives and charitable activities! 💧
Activities
- Education and training: Developing programs that educate and train students on water-related topics.
- Community building: Creating networks where young people can develop their talents and make an impact in their communities.
- Integration of sports: Utilizing sports to enhance local engagement and raise awareness about water-related issues.
- Promoting innovation: Encouraging breakthrough innovations by involving youth in challenges like the UN 2023 Game Changer Challenge and Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai Japan.

Revenue and asset management:
The foundation generates income from multi-year and short-term subsidies and assignments through collaborations with various partners, including government programs from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS), and programs under the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), such as Partners for Water, as well as private organizations. These collaborations may include financial support, resources, or expertise that contribute to the implementation of their projects.
Allocation of funds:
- Development and implementation of educational and training programs.
- Organization of events and workshops aimed at raising awareness and involvement in water-related issues.
- Support for local ‘Waves’ or branches dedicated to water innovation and sustainability in various regions

The board of the Wavemakers United Foundation is unpaid, and the team consists largely of volunteers who offer their services free of charge under a framework agreement and a volunteer declaration. Any expenses incurred can be reimbursed through an expense claim form.
The director is, as previously agreed in an agreement with the board, engaged on a project basis under contract at a partially sponsored rate, with a maximum annual compensation of €80,000. Project staff also receive a partially sponsored hourly rate with a maximum annual compensation of €54,000 to €67,500, depending on the project.
The foundation does not have any employees on its payroll. The remuneration policy strictly adheres to the applicable legal framework, and the compensation limits remain within the boundaries set by the Wet Normering Topinkomens (WNT)
