"Wavemakers United treats sustainability as professional sport"
We treat the Climate Goals of Paris 2030 as the Olympic games: just like athletes, we set realistic deadlines and goals to be ready to hit the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
Top sport teaches us that when rewards are given and medals can be won, people are more willing to take action. That’s why we inspire youth worldwide to work in a positive and sporty way on solutions for sustainable water.
We believe that athletes can drive change and can use their platforms to call for climate action, recognizing the urgent need to protect both the environment and the future of sports.
“By using sport as a platform, we realize
sustainable changes in local communities”
The Seine river became center of stage during the Paris Olympic Games for the swimming part of the triathlon after it was finally considered clean enough.
For the last 100 years that seemed impossible because it was too polluted! With the goal on the horizon of organizing the Olympics on the Seine France invested greatly into restoring the river. Big events like the Olympics can accelerate innovations but also show that once we put our minds onto something we can achieve big things!!
Wavemakers United connects with big events, such as the Olympic Games, World Championships or Ocean races to adress themes that goes beyond sport.
The power of sports
Athletes can make impact in our fight to solve the global water challenges, simply by using their platform and to use their voice for climate related matters. They are the influencers of today; they can make people really listen and inspire them to drive change with their personal stories in sports and climate.
SPORT EVENTS
Big events, such as the Olympic Games, World Championships or the Ocean Race, brings opportunities to address important themes that goes beyond the sport.
We often provide water labs or have a stage for athletes to speak and inspire and create awareness for water.
GUEST LECTURES
Sustainability is not exactly a cool theme to bring up, but athletes are able to make sustainability hip and interesting for all generations!
The playground for sailors/surfers, swimmers and rowers are under threat due to water pollution. By showing real examples of problems they faced, they are able to make real impact on the students and inspire them to take action.
CAMPAIGNING
Water and food are inextricably linked. Too much, too little or polluted water affects food production.
Wavemakers is currently working on behalf of the permanent representative of the FAO in Rome on a joint strategy with international youth networks to exert influence on the various UN coordinated organizations, especially in the agricultural and food sector.
