Events highlights of 2024!

It’s been a year full of memorable events where we got to represent Wavemakers United all over the Globe. From the Singapore Water Week, Innovation festivals to the 10th World Water Forum and the Paralympic Games!

We are beyond proud we got to host more FUTURE IS NOW events this year as follow up on the first edition during last years UN Water Conference. Let’s relive these most memorable events!

‘Future Is Now’ at 10th World Water Forum in Bali

During the 2nd ‘Future Is Now’ event, we officially launched the new Wave of Indonesia: a youth-led intergenerational ecosystem. It aims to inspire and educate the younger generation about water-related topics and sustainability. The Water Agency, as part of this new Wave, organized the Bali Raincraft challenge, where students from all across Indonesia were asked to use the power of Minecraft to tackle water and climate issues through innovation and collaboration. This great milestone took place in the in the Dutch Pavillion and was launched by Special Water Envoy of the Netherlands, Meike van Ginneken.

On top of that, the founder of Wavemakers United, Tilly Stroo, signed a Letter of Intent for collaboration under the Centre of Excellence for Water and Climate Resilience between PUPR SDA and Wavemakers United. Together we followed up on local commitments to the water action agenda, raise awareness, build capacity, and create an ecosystem led by youth where we will guide, facilitate, and empower them.

3rd ‘Future Is Now’ Event

During the Paris Paralympic Games, the 3rd ‘Future Is Now’ Event took place. It was a perfect opportunity to connect water, nutrition, and sport. We visited the Bassin de la Villette; it is the largest artificial body of water in Paris that links the Canal de l’Ourcq to the Canal Saint-Martin. French and Dutch experts worked together to develop river transport, to ensure clean water and make urban rivers swimmable.

Additionally, students from the Netherlands and France participated in inspiring sessions, where they discussed and shared innovative ideas on how to improve swimmability in the cities through public pools and clean public waters.

This event was a perfect opportunity to draw a connection between water, nutrition, and sport. Professional athletes Simone van de Kraats, Scipio Houtman and Thijs van den End held an amazing lecture about the healthy plant-based nutrition and a healthy lifestyle.

This day would not have been possible without the support of Nederlandse Ambassade in Frankrijk, Cité internationale universitaire de Paris, and GroentenFruit Huis.
