Just one day before the finish line, on May 22, Wavemakers United joined the Scheldt River Walk, an extraordinary initiative by Li An Phoa, Drinkable Rivers .
This incredible 30-day journey covers 360 km, from the source of the Scheldt to the North Sea, uniting citizens, students, farmers, mayors, and more – all standing up for the future of clean and healthy rivers.
The walk was guided by Cees Van Houwelingen chairman of ‘Schone Schelde’ and just signed a collaboration with Geopark Schelde Data, which is assigned by UNESCO as Global Geopark! That’s great news!
Our participation today was a powerful reminder of what Mina Guli’s Run Blue Foundation quoted earlier this month.
“Change is never a solo effort. It happens when we stand together, lift each other up, and keep moving forward as one.”
We couldn’t agree more and that’s why Wavemakers United, part of the Tauw Foundation Dream Project, joined the Scheldt Walk today.
But our contribution continued on the closing day as well! On May 23, at the HZ University of Applied Sciences we celebrated the finish of this River Walk with a final part of the walk, a short boat trip and a beautiful closing ceremony in Vlissingen.
Participants presented their ideas, views and projects. We also shared our plans for the Swimmable Cities in Rotterdam in June. We are already counting down for the Swimmable Cities in Rotterdam in June!

Together, let’s keep creating awareness to protect our rivers, our future, and our youth.
One mission. One collective effort.
