Water Youth Challenges

On May 4th, our Wave of Indonesia participated in the Water Youth Challenges, an inspiring initiative that brought together 25 university students from IPB University and Universitas Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. Hosted at the Dutch Embassy, the event focused on tackling coastal water challenges in Muara Gembong, one of Indonesia’s most vulnerable coastal areas.

Through a life-centred design workshop, participants tried to come up with the innovative solutions to local water issues. Guided by the Designing for One methodology, the teams learned to approach water challenges not only from a technical perspective but also through environmental lenses, fostering creativity, collaboration, and compassion.

The winning team earned a day trip to Muara Gembong, where they experienced firsthand the realities of coastal water management and community resilience.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the partners: Kampung Kollektief, Labtek Apung, Nuffic Southeast Asia, and the Dutch Embassy in Indonesia
