Waves making Waves in 2024!

We are very proud of each individual Wave, and we summarized some of the best Wave highlights of this year:

Launch of Wave of Indonesia

During the 10th World Water Forum in Bali, we were happy to add another country to Wavemakers United and launched The Wave of Indonesia! The wave is part of the newly established Center of Excellence (CoE) for Water and Climate Resilience. Under its guidance, multiple events were organized, such as the ‘Water Impact Week’, the ‘Week of Indonesia-Netherlands’, and the ‘Water Warrior Assemble’ all to empower young people to address water challenges. This would not have been possible without the commitment of Wave of Indonesia Chairman Sabrinah Salsabilla, Nuffic South East Asia, Partners for Water, and the Water Agency.

Launch of Wave Bonaire

During the Sport Expo on Bonaire we launched the first Wave on a small island state. Bonaire, part of the Caribbean, is particularly vulnerable to climate change because of its fragile ecosystems and often low-lying coastal areas. With this wave, we aim to work hard to keep nature as unspoiled as possible, while making it tourist-attractive. We inspire the next generation to become ambassadors for water by introducing them to water sports and the Wave of Bonaire took the central stage during events like the Sport Expo and the Annual Caribbean International Sportsweek. Special thanks to chairman Marcelien de Koning and Orange Sports Forum for making this happen.

Wave of Egypt 1 year anniversary

The Wave of Egypt had their 1 year anniversary during the 7th Cairo Water Week this fall and what a journey it’s been! The Wave of Egypt grew as a youth-led community of sharing skills and knowledge on environmental issues and even started their own innovation hub! The absolute highlight: the first ever Wavemaker Summer Camp! The on-site multiple day training camp offered an immersive experience that focused heavily on water sustainability, water and energy, and the global water crisis. A true inspiration for future Waves! This would not be possible without the commitment of Wave Egypt chairman Moustafa Abdalla, the Anna Lindh Foundation, Young Expert Programmes and Climafy.

Guest Lecture Records in South Africa

While the Wave community of South Africa still has a great potential to grow, they are absolutely leading the rankings when it comes to educating the largest number of children on water. During National Water Month in April, they set a record of educating 1285 youngsters on water by visiting 15 schools across the Western Cape. This would not have been possible without the partnership of the Department of Water and Sanitation and our Wavemaker Ambassador of Education, Margo Tamzone Adonis!
