One of our Wavemakers, Abigail Calvez, is in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, working with a team of young professionals from across the world to solve one of the most pressing challenges facing local farmers: access to water.
Abigail is one of three students supported each year through HZ University of Applied Sciences to participate in Wetskills, an international pressure-cooker experience that brings students and young professionals together for two weeks to tackle real, on-the-ground water challenges.
Her team has been given a case by SNV Netherlands Development Organisation. In the Umzingwane District, youth-led horticulture farmers are surrounded by available water, yet collecting it is back-breaking, pumping it is expensive, and the current methods aren’t sustainable. Abigail and her teammates have less than two weeks to come up with something better. Something that could genuinely change how these young farmers work.
We are proud to see such passionate wavemakers represent our community!
