Our Impact
Wavemakers United inspires youth to take action on water. We do this in three ways:
- By raising awareness through education and sports. Our goal is to give 1 million youngsters a year a guest lecture on water
- By promoting global collaboration through our capacity-building program
- And by supporting new student-initiated innovations
The Succes of the Gamechanger Challenge
The UN2023 Gamechanger challenge was a great success, during which 200 universities around the world joined. Over a thousand students from 62 different nationalities worked on innovative ideas, offered guest lectures to their local community, and contributed to solving the global water challenges.

Wavemakers United is a community of students, young professionals, and athletes with a passion for water. As a youth organization we focus on local challenges while having a global reach. Our aim is to contribute to the UN SDGs and involve as many youngsters as possible.

Youth, Water & Dialogue at the IJssel Youth Summit
On June 26, we joined the inspiring Jongerentop Ijssel in Doesburg, place where young people, professionals, and local organizations gathered to explore the future of the rivers and water innovation.
Dutch Wave: Swimmable Cities Rotterdam
This week, Rotterdam took center stage as host of the Swimmable Cities Summit, where experts, advocates, practitioners, and decision-makers came together to catalyze a new wave for urban swimming!
Making Waves at the ALForum 2025
Our representative, Moustafa Abdalla, joined the ALForum as a speaker in the session “Social Innovation for Sustainable Futures: The Role of Inclusive Employment and Urban–Rural Development”.
Wavemakers United Strengthens Global Water Collaboration
Dutch Economic Trade mission took us last week to the Indonesia. We strengthened partnerships, promoted water innovation and education and youth leadership —driving global collaboration for a more sustainable future.
The gamechanger challenge will be back!
A new challenge is on the way! Wavemakers United and IHE Institute for water education Delft organized the UN2023 Gamechanger Challenge towards the UN2023 Water Conference. The project successfully involved 200 student teams from 62 different countries resulting in 5 finalists presenting their idea during the New York Water Week.
The journey of water innovation has only just begun! The official start of the Challenge will be during the Olympic summer of 2024 in Paris but you can already sign up as: case owner, jury member, ambassador and coach! Learn more on how to get involved!
